two

Day Two...

Waiting at our usual spot for a ride.
I don't want to tell you how many grown men and young
men stared at my 15 year old daughter on this trip.  It makes
me a little sick to my stomach and REALLY makes me
want to lock her up until she's 105!  I have always known
she's a pretty girl, but between double takes and cat calls in
NYC--I am very scared.  Very very scared.

Me and Josh catching some sun.
The weather was always nice in the sun, but when the
wind blows in NYC--run for someplace warm.
That wind stinks--very very cold.

For breakfast we headed to Clinton Street Bakery.
They have the best walnut & banana waffles and the syrup
is to die for good.  I wanted to drink it.  Besides all
that they are VERY reasonably priced
(think Normandie folks of Holladay!)

"The" Pancakes

Kyle went with an egg dish.

Onward, ever onward.

We walked past Katz's on the way out of Clinton--
think "When Harry Met Sally".  Heard they have great
food, but have never eaten here.

Headed to the lower Manhattan TKTS Broadway ticket
booth to wait for some half price tickets for a Friday night show.

We let Josh choose and he picked "Jesus Christ Superstar"--
the Opera of the last week of Christ's life.  Which was actually
quite fitting for GOOD FRIDAY.  The show, for me, and mine
was actually quite moving (I had no idea what to expect)--
especially the scene (which takes direct quotes from the bible)
where Jesus is crucified and gives his spirit to the hands of
the Father.  It was quite the experience to see it.

And very fitting for Easter weekend, which of course,
is all about Jesus!

I was wondering if it would be sacrilegious, but none
of us felt like it was--in fact we loved the human
perspective it gave to Christ, his apostles and all
the people in the story they based the show on.

It made us stop and think about what it would have
REALLY been like to be Christ, or Judas or Peter.

After purchasing tickets, we headed to Century 21, because
of course Grace "needed" to shop some more.  I was under
impressed--it was not "cheap" enough for this girl!
Century 21 is in lower Manhattan by the Twin Towers
and this old church (never remember the name) with this
beautiful old cemetery.  We grabbed a bench for a minute
to rest.

Two things about NYC:

1. If you find a bathroom, use it!   You never know when
you'll find/see/be able to use another one.

2. If you find a seat, use it!  You never know when you'll find/see/
be able to use another one.

Trust me on those two things.

More shots of some old headstones.

One of the new twin towers going up.
More on these later.

Empty benches and popcorn popping.

Check out this store with ALL things girly.
It was about as pink and zebra-y as you can get!

The guys had to have a Grays Papaya dog for lunch.
Or a snack, maybe.
A NYC staple--some say "gross" but for two dogs and a drink
for about $4, well, you can' go wrong.

ALMOST my name.  Spelled wrong "A" instead of "E".

Riding the subway.

Another "cheap" eat--The Shake Shack.  A good burger
for a SLC price.  Along the lines of 5 Guys and just as good.

The only thing missing?
FRY SAUCE!!!
Why has the rest of the world NOT caught on to this
great concoction?

More spring flowers.

And some more and the cool old above ground 72nd Street
Subway station.  Kyle said they all used to be like this, until
the city grew up around them and they had to be torn
down to make room for more and more buildings.

We arrived at Times Square for our show and there was a mystery
stage set up with a count down clock.  Supposedly some "star"
would be appearing at 7:30.  Everyone in this tweeting, texting and
facebooking age said there were lots of tweets about Nicki Manaj.
Low and behold at 7:30 she appeared and sang to promote
some new gadget.  We stayed with the other 30,000 people for
one song and dashed off to our show.  I was a little claustrophobic.

Too far away for my IPHONE to see her.

After the show, Josh needed some cheesecake
from Roxy's in Times Square.

We hung out and Josh shopped for some new shoes--
we headed back to the Wilcox's at about 11:30 that night.

Another LONG, fun day in the Big Apple.

Side note:  A "star" sighting in NYC is relatively common.
The first day we saw Daniel Radcliffe, he was filming for
two days on Columbia campus for some new movie.

There were signs all around stating "closed set" and a HUGE
crowd gathered around a bunch of people, cameras and lights.

I stopped some kid on campus and asked what all the fuss
was about, he turned to me, rolled his eyes and said, "Aw it's
just Daniel Radcliffe and he's not even handsome in real life!"

It made me laugh.  I told him, "Don't tell all the teen age and
other age girls that who think he's so cute!" (My daughter
being one of them).  We stayed and watched for a minute til
he walked up the steps into a building.

Stay tuned for Day Three.
