Thanks to Miss Zoe Jefferies, I have pictures of my son at Trek. It is so fun as a mom to see what I missed seeing first hand. Josh and all of the youth came home from Trek having had a wonderful experience. I have not heard of one kid yet who did not LOVE it! (which surprised me honestly). Josh said that physically it was the HARDEST thing he has ever done and after the first day he was ready to quit. But after a warm meal and a good nights sleep (he reported that he fell asleep in under 5 minutes tops) he was ready for the next 3 days.
He said the whole experience was great--physical, mental, spiritual, etc. --and that "his dad would have loved doing it." (not surprisingly, i was not included in the "love doing it". ha ha)
He shared that one day they walked their handcarts through the mud that was thigh deep on him (remember he is 6'5" tall) and the pants he brought home proved it! He said that anyone who was a "strong good worker" was on the "pulling through the mud committee." He was on it!
People lost shoes and other items in the mud--Josh lost his extra shoes--they are somewhere in Wyoming in 3 feet of mud.
They carried all their clothes and water for 4 days on the handcarts and walked about 6 miles the first day, 15.2 miles the 2nd day and 13 miles the 3rd day. Close to 35 miles in the 4 days total.
Josh said it was a great experience being a "Pa" (the father of his fake pioneer family) and he said his family was "THE BEST!"
Their youth leaders and ward and stake leaders planned this so well and really made it such a great experience for the kids that went.
Josh said he was really glad he participated in Trek and it was an experience worth living.
